History of New Hampshire

        

        New Hapshire was once first called North Virginia. Massachusetts once had jurisdiction over New

 

Hampshire. For approximately 12,000years New Hampshire has been inhabited. In 1623, the first

 

permanent was the European settlement in New Hampshire. New Hampshire's seacoast was divied

 

amoung four towns by 1640. The four original towns subdivided into smaller area when the population

 

grew.

        

        New Hampshire people made their living through a combination of farming, cutting and sawing

 

timber, fishing, ship building, and coastal trade in the 1600s. Electrical and other machinery, textiles,

 

pulp and paper products are the most important industrial products. The major agricultural pursuits

 

are dairy, poultry, growing fruit, vegetables, and hay.

         

           In 1679, New Hampshire was made a separate royal, after a 38 year period of union with

 

Massachusetts. On July 4, 1776, New Hampshire received the honor of being the first to vote

 

for the Decloration of Independence.
